Who says we can’t look and feel a little luxe in lockdown? These pieces from the Boho Bird autumn-winter 2020 collection will have you ready for #formalfriday.
Every Friday during these COVID-19 times, I’ve been wearing something that’s a bit more special, something with a bit of sparkle or interest to it.
Why not join me? It’s the reverse of the pre-COVID world’s #casualfriday. It gives you an opportunity to wear things in your wardrobe or buy something fun and new to keep you motivated.
Today, I’m rounding out my week of shining a spotlight on some of my favourite Australian designers with a look at something new from birdsnest. Boho Bird is just one of the many in-house labels at birdsnest, one of Australia’s original online stores.
I’ve been privileged to have not only met birdsnest founder Jane Cay and visited “the nest” in Cooma, New South Wales, but I’ve heard her speak about her business and the enormous amount of energy and dedication that she channels into her team to ensure birdsnest leads the way in online customer service.
For this outfit, I’m featuring two pieces that I can see myself definitely wearing so many different ways – in “iso” and out.

I’ve never met a bit of sparkle and glitter in an outfit that I’ve not loved. It’s tricky to capture the gold, lurex thread in this OTS top but it is really something. The lurex does make this not as soft a knit as the skirt but it’s a top that I know I would wear with jeans and boots for a completely different look, so it’s versatility wins out. The hemline is generous on this but the arms/shoulders are fitted, so choose a size accordingly.
The knit tube skirt is AMAZING. It’s a piece that feels incredible on. The cut just seems to work for curves. Love the side split for a little extra. The matching knit is a great idea or you could wear this with a t-shirt and denim jacket. Dress up the combo with heels when we can go out again and you have a cool-weather option for date night or the office.
I’ve worn sneakers as it’s the kind of #formalfriday look I’ve been doing most week. It’s all about the party up the top for video calls and comfort down the bottom for, well, comfort. HAH.
So, tell me, have you been dressing up for #formalfriday … or just because?
