Size 30 Wedding Dresses

Before I dive into my roundup of size 30 wedding dresses, there are a few tips I want to share when shopping for your wedding dress in a size 30 (or above!):

Tip #1: Read the Size Chart!!

In my own work as a plus size blogger and fashion designer, I see my readers and followers get frustrated with size charts. For a variety of interesting reasons, many plus size shoppers (and brides!) think there is one “true” size chart.

Many plus size person has a specific idea of what measurements should match up to a specific size.

While it would be easier if there was one universal size chart, it’s actually a good thing there isn’t! You see, the size chart often reflects how closely fitted or tight a brand wants a piece of clothing to look. A size chart reflects the FIT of a garment.

Because of this, I recommend that you take your measurements (a friend or sewist bestie can help if needed!), so you can see what size you need. A size 30 in one brand is probably *not* going to be the same as another!

Tip #2: Rely on Brands That Show Plus Size Models

Ok, so I think we can all agree that it is annoying AF when a brand offers plus sizes, but doesn’t have nary a model in sight above a size 10/12.

BUT, this issue is actually kind of helpful, in a backwards way. You see, if a brand is failing to put visibly plus size models in a size 30 wedding dress, I’ll bet you MONEY (as a trained fashion designer who dropped a LOT of money to learn how to design plus size clothing) that they skimped or took shortcuts when designing the fit of their plus size garments.

Let me say that again: If a brand doesn’t show visibly plus size models in their marketing, it is a good bet that they are not doing a good job with the FIT of their wedding dresses.

If a brand can’t be bothered to be inclusive enough to show a plus size model in their wedding gowns, I’m gonna bet they did not do their due diligence when grading patterns, doing fit tests, etc.

Just saying!!!!

Tip #3: Dress Like You’re FAT

Ok, this tip might be a bit abrasive for some folks — but hear me out! When it comes to deciding what plus size wedding dress to wear, I am BEGGING you: Dress like you’re FAT!

Too often, I see brides choosing a plus size wedding dress based on trying to hide themselves. From going with long sleeves because they’re self-conscious about their arms, to only letting themselves look at very structured gowns that “cinch” in — when they’d rather be a plus size boho bride with a loose Stevie Nicks-inspired number!

No matter what size 30 wedding gown you decide to snag, please choose your gown based on what you’ve already envisioned.

Ok, now that we’ve gotten our tips, here are the size 30 wedding dresses!

Because, bestie, to be frank: People already know what your body looks like. They do!! I promise!! Your loved ones have seen your belly, thighs, arms, whatever!

Don’t dress like you’re apologizing for existing on your wedding day. <3
