Meghan Markle has spent half of this month in Canada, adjusting to her new life outside of the royal family. The Duchess of Sussex is no longer a full-time working royal, but she is still working…and she’d still like you to know that she remains dedicated to her patronages. She posted on her SussexRoyal Instagram this morning and revealed that while in England this month, she made a secret visit to Mayhew, an animal charity and one of her first four patronages she was given.
The Duchess wore a blue blouse with a navy Massimo Dutti wrap coat. SussexRoyal wrote on the Instagram, “Earlier this month, The Duchess of Sussex popped in to see the amazing people at Mayhew to hear about the incredible progress made throughout the festive period. The Duchess of Sussex, having been proud patron of Mayhew since January 2019 and long understanding the connection between animal and community welfare, applauds the people at Mayhew for the vital work that they do every day. From cats and dogs who have found new homes to animal welfare cases handled in the community—@TheMayhew believes in the power of togetherness and the special bond between humans and animals.”
When the Queen announced this weekend fuller details about Meghan and Harry’s future now that they’ve stepped back from their senior royal family member positions, Buckingham Palace detailed what parts of their old roles they will lose and keep.
“As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from royal duties, including official military appointments. They will no longer receive public funds for royal duties,” the Palace said. “With the Queen’s blessing, the Sussexes will continue to maintain their private patronages and associations. While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty. The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the royal family.”
