Riverdale‘s other big off-screen couple, Camila Mendes and Charles Melton, have called it quits for now, E! reports. A source told the outlet that the two co-stars, who play Veronica and Reggie on the show respectively, secretly decided to take a break months ago.
“Cami and Charles have been separated for a few months now,” the source said. “They are taking a break from their relationship. Their relationship escalated very quickly and they are taking time now to focus on their work and themselves.”
Mendes and Melton first started dating at the end of summer 2018. Mendes marked their one-year anniversary on August 23, sharing a kissing photo of them. “365 days. i love you,” she wrote.
E!’s source explained that there was no major conflict that broke them up. They’ve just dealt with distance and stress. The stress from their burgeoning careers in particular caused “ups and downs” in the relationship.
“They both have movie projects separately, and it’s been a lot on both their plates,” the source said. “Nothing in particular happened, they just both felt busy and overwhelmed and it was a lot of pressure on them.”
Mendes and Melton are committed to professionalism though. “They are still in touch and both understand they need to be cordial while on set and throughout press for the show,” the source said. “They have been filming together while being split and things have been normal.”
