RimWorld Console Edition Brings a Rich Colony Simulator Experience to Xbox – Out Now

RimWorld Console Edition is available today for Xbox One and playable on Xbox Series X|S in backwards compatibility mode. Experience unique, randomly generated stories directed by one of three AI storytellers as you establish your colony on a barren and dangerous world.

Critically acclaimed and enjoyed by over a million players on PC, RimWorld Console Edition brings that premium colony simulator experience to consoles. Crashland on a lonely planet at the edge of space and build up your colony from nothing. Pick from a range of randomly generated colonists – each with their own likes, dislikes, talents and quirks. Complete quests and survive brutal attacks from enemy raiders, you will have the chance to recruit more survivors with the goal of developing your wreckage into a sustainable haven.

The game has been rebuilt from the ground up for controllers, with a fully redesigned user interface and control scheme. Navigating the game is simple and quick, any action like building, defending, trading, hunting and assigning tasks being accomplished with minimal inputs for a satisfying experience.

Design and develop a colony with your motley crew, starting from nothing and developing your base into a fully functioning, sustainable colony. Gather resources and research new technologies, from primitive weapons to advanced, futuristic items. As your colony grows, you will encounter increasingly difficult threats determined by the AI storyteller, specially generated to create the most interesting narratives. No story is ever the same as the last.

Managing your colonists is imperative to their survival. Get hands on with their work schedule and prioritisation of tasks. Whether they are good at their jobs is dependent on their stats and traits. Each colonist has their own skills, randomly generated by the storyteller, which impact how effective they are in certain situations. A pacifist is never going to fight and a pyromaniac is going to love setting fires around your base – which can lead to some interesting situations.

As your colony grows and your colonists settle in, the storytellers will continue to throw unexpected raids to defend against – from mad, man-eating rabbits to full-on Mechanoid assaults. Employ defensive tactics through the game’s combat engine which is interwoven and impacted by the AI storytellers. A colonist’s performance in battle is affected by other elements in their lives; maybe they were just about to eat before a savage raid, have come down with a deadly disease or even just had an argument with their partner and are on edge – all of these possible situations affect their combat ability. Enemies will duck and dive through cover and do anything to get the upper hand, so do everything you can to defend against their attacks!

RimWorld Console Edition is a rich experience with never ending possibilities, bringing the critically acclaimed gameplay to console audiences with a slick new user interface and control scheme, all brought to life through the three AI-driven narrative storytellers.

Enjoy RimWorld Console Edition right now on Xbox One, playable on Xbox Series X|S in backwards compatibility mode.

It’s designed to co-author tragic, twisted, and triumphant stories about imprisoned pirates, desperate colonists, starvation and survival. It works by controlling the “random” events that the world throws at you. Every thunderstorm, pirate raid, and travelling salesman is a card dealt into your story by the AI Storyteller. There are several storytellers to choose from. Randy Random does crazy stuff, Cassandra Classic goes for rising tension, and Phoebe Chillax likes to relax.

The game generates a whole planet from pole to equator. You choose whether to land your crash pods in a cold northern tundra, a parched desert flat, a temperate forest, or a steaming equatorial jungle. Different areas have different animals, plants, diseases, temperatures, rainfall, mineral resources, and terrain. The challenges of surviving in a disease-infested, choking jungle are very different from those in a parched desert wasteland or a frozen tundra with a two-month growing season.

Your colonists are not professional settlers – they’re crash-landed survivors from a passenger liner destroyed in orbit. You can end up with a nobleman, an accountant, and a housewife. You’ll acquire more colonists by capturing them in combat and turning them to your side. So your colony will always be a motley crew.
