Today’s reveal of Paper Mario: The Origami King for Nintendo Switch has confirmed several things – like the fact that the Paper Mario franchise will be making its Switch debut this summer and that we’re suddenly feeling a desperate need to quickly play through all past games in the series – but it also adds weight to those Mario remaster rumours from earlier in the year.
As you may remember, a report from VGC told us that Nintendo is planning to launch remastered releases of “most of Super Mario’s 35-year back catalogue” this year. The report was soon backed up by Eurogamer, and owning to the credibility of both sources, many are assuming the reports to be true. For all we know, announcements for such releases might be just around the corner.
However, the initial report also stated that “several other Mario titles” would be launching in 2020, including a new Paper Mario game. There’s a long way to go, for sure, but with the first game announcement now correctly predicted, we’re even more open to the idea of the rest following suit. Could we see similar announcements to today’s staggered throughout the rest of the year?
If you missed the news earlier today, make sure to check out the new Paper Mario’s game initial announcement here. We also shared a gallery of glorious looking screenshots, alongside our first look at the new game’s box art.
