The many varied worlds of Remnant: From the Ashes can be harsh and unforgiving. As The Root’s hold on Earth grows, humanity’s chances for survival dwindle. Use these ten tips straight from the developers at Gunfire games to increase your chances of survival against Earth’s otherworldly invaders.
Dodge like your life depends on it (because it does)
The first key to surviving the post-apocalypse in Remnant: From the Ashes is to make sure you don’t get hit in the first place. This may seem self explanatory, but keep in mind that through judicious use of the game’s movement options, almost all damage can be avoided. The i-frames granted by a well-timed directional dodge can be the difference between life and death. Remember, neutral dodges (hitting dodge without pressing a direction) are much faster than directional dodges and can save you from a sticky situation. Neutral dodges can also put out the Burning debuff quicker than directional, so when in trouble, stop, drop, and… neutral dodge.
You’re gonna carry that weight
Strapping on heavy gear will necessarily increase your encumbrance rate. The more encumbered you are the slower your dodge will be. If you find yourself overencumbered, your handy dodge roll may become more of a desperate belly flop, so pay attention to the weight of your gear. Neutral dodges are unaffected by this, giving you yet another reason to employ this tactic in battle.
Stay well stocked up.
In a pinch, consumable items can be a survivor’s best friend. Bloodwort can apply a necessary regeneration effect while Oilskin Balm will cure Infected and give you Root Rot resistance. Also, don’t forget to keep your Ammo Box reserves full. Not only do these replenish your ammo count, but you may find they can often times reload your weapons faster than you can!
Keep an even keel
Gear in Remnant is upgradeable using the loot you salvage when exploring the worlds of Ruined Earth and beyond. Make sure you are keeping your gear upgraded, but make sure you are doing it evenly. Don’t upgrade one piece of gear to the detriment of the rest as you may find this leaves you unprepared for the challenges the game throws your way.
The Mod squad
Along your journeys through the post-apocalypse, you’ll be able to craft various Weapon Mods with the rare loot you earn. These Mods are one of your most powerful tools, but they are not necessarily one size fits all. Sometimes Mender’s Aura may be the correct choice to keep your party healed up and ready to continue the fight. Sometimes Song of Swords is just the added damage boost you need to take down a difficult World Boss that stands between you and the future of humanity. Make sure you are testing different Mod setups with different Weapons and changing them frequently. Being able to adapt is key to survival.
Remnant is dynamic (and your loadouts should be too)
Get used to having different loadouts that you swap between depending on the nature of the challenges you encounter. If you run into a Boss with Regenerator, Swap to the Hotshot mod to apply a damage-over-time effect and stop their healing.
Fools rush in
The worlds of Remnant: From the Ashes are filled with danger and potential enemies around every corner. Be deliberate and take things slowly. Don’t rush headfirst into an enemy encounter. This is a surefire way to find yourself on the business end of an exploding spear.
Break stuff
Eagle-eyed players might spot the breakable objects littered around the worlds of Remnant. Taking the time to smash them all up is a profitable tactic for getting that much-needed Scrap into your hands. Scrap can be used to upgrade your gear or to purchase those all-important consumables. Whenever you head back to Ward-13, make sure to stop and smash the roses along the way.
Complement each other
When heading out with friends to take the fight to the Root, be sure that your loadouts are complementary to each other. Have one player focus on healing while another one leans more towards debuffs and another focuses on DPS. This will allow you to cover all contingencies and stay one step ahead of your enemies.
Rated G for Gear
Throughout your adventure, your gear rating will increase as you upgrade your weapons and armor. Make sure to check your relative gear level in the ‘Advanced Info’ panel. This will show whether your gear is at a higher or lower level than zone you are playing through. If you find that your gear is underleveled, head back to Riggs in Ward-13 to make the needed upgrades.
