Reader Discussion – How Long Do You Have To Be Away From A Game Before You Restart It?

Sometimes we get a game on launch day, and play through it non-stop until we finish it. Other times, our play time is a big more staggered, across days, weeks, or sometimes, months, depending on how long and difficult a game is, or how much free time we might have around then. Sometimes, though, we stop playing for a good while for whatever reason, and on the occasion we decide to return, we have to make a choice: should we just start over?

I ask because that’s where I’m at with Resident Evil 2. I played it around on launch and enjoyed it, but I eventually started getting sidetracked. And with an upcoming lull my personal radar coming after Mortal Kombat 11 hits later this month, I’m thinking about diving back in. But I’m not sure if I should start over or keep going at this point. I believe I’m about to meet Mr. X, to give you an idea of where I’m at. Should I abandon my save file, or start over? I tend to not restart games when this happens, but considering how Resident Evil games often have you keeping track of various items and locations you have and have been to in your head, I’m seriously considering it.

What do you think? Should I start over, or just keep at it? How often do you find yourself in this situation? What do you tend to do? How long is long enough to start over? Let us know in the comments.
