Brad Pitt won’t be spending his Christmas with his and Angelina Jolie’s oldest son Maddox Jolie-Pitt, as their relationship is still very strained, Us Weekly reports. A source told the outlet that when Pitt was traveling abroad earlier this fall, he did not end up visiting the 18-year-old college student at Seoul’s Yonsei University.

“Brad didn’t try to see Maddox,” the source said. “There’s been no contact between them.”

What damaged their relationship so badly? Pitt reportedly got into an altercation with Maddox on a private plane in 2016; it was that incident that led Jolie to file for divorce. It had a lasting effect on his relationship with Maddox, as a source told Us back in October that Maddox “hasn’t been receptive” to any efforts on Jolie’s or Pitt’s part to get Maddox to talk to his dad.

Pitt’s relationships with his other two oldest kids Pax, 16, and Zahara, 14, also are also a little damaged in the aftermath of the incident and divorce. A source told Us that Pitt only expects to see his three youngest kids, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox, this holiday.

“Last year, Zahara spent a few hours with him, but he’s not expecting her this year,” the insider told the outlet. “Brad no longer pushes for Maddox, Pax, or Zahara to come. He knows it makes everyone uncomfortable. He’s decided not to force it because they’ve already been through so much.”

Maddox spoke very briefly about his relationship with his dad when a paparazzo interviewed him at school in September. Maddox was curt but diplomatic. When asked whether Pitt would be visiting him at college, Maddox replied, “I don’t know about that, what’s happening.” The reporter then asked if his relationship with Pitt was over for good. “Whatever happens, happens,” Maddox said.
